Science visit - The Gross Lab & From Chew to the Poo!!!

We were lucky enough to have two visitors from Eureka! in Halifax on Monday 1st December.

The children in Y1, Y2 and Y3 spent the morning in The Gross Lab. This was where the children explored the more 'ickier' (but very important) side of the Human Body. 'Grossology' is the Science of really gross things and during the show the children became grossologists - someone who studies really gross things. They looked at what happens when you cut yourself, what saliva is for, why we burp (and poo) as well as making fake scabs, poo, snot and sick! The children had a fantastic time and could remember some great gross scientific facts.

In the afternoon it was Y4, Y5 and Y6's turn. They looked at the journey a peanut butter and banana sandwich takes from the moment it is eaten to the moment it leaves the body. Through a series of interactive activities the children found out how saliva in the mouth breaks down the food in order for it to be swallowed, how our bodies retain the minerals and vitamins the body needs and more amusingly how it gets rid of the bits it doesn't need as waste.

Overall the day was a brilliant success with the children learning many facts in an amusing, interactive way. All the children who took part are now fully qualified GROSSOLOGISTS!!!
